Vote for Our Future

Our Bay-Area-wide Vote for Our Future campaign is focused on increasing civic engagement and voter turnout of the parent, student and at-large communities for the November 2010 elections and beyond. Our goals are to:

  • Provide a deeper understanding of the education crisis
  • Encourage parents to join us in advocating for short-term and long-term reform, to ensure that education issues are a top priority for elected officials
  • Mobilize parents to get-out-the-vote
For this campaign, we are partnering with KTSF, Univision, Telefutura, World Journal, American Leadership Forum Silicon Valley, Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association (APAPA), Asian Pacific American Leadership Institute, Somos Mayfair, Vision New America and parent leaders in different school districts (see below).

There’s a pressing need for education reform.  Parents have been the missing link in the reform equation.  Public education is at risk because of systemic failures in state funding.

Parents have a history of low voter turnout.  This campaign will register new parent and youth voters.   Based on recent analysis, measures in support of educational reform lag by 100,000-500,000 votes statewide, and by 40,000 votes in Santa Clara County.  Our efforts in increasing voter registration and turnout will help close these shortfalls and enable families and communities to achieve the changes required to ensure a strong educational program.
